How many people that you call, have meetings with or write actually join your business? At first, the answer to that might make you want to give up completely. What is all this talk about leads? More importantly, how do I get them? Even more importantly, how do I generate free leads? You guessed it, this article is about leads, lead generation and of course, free leads for your business.
“The money is in the list.” How many times have you heard that? To tell you the truth when I was fairly new to network marketing I grew sick and tired of hearing that. Partly because I had no idea how to generate leads and even more so, I had no idea why they were so important. So let's start with that. Why are leads so important?
Did you know it takes the average person seven exposures to a product before they will consider buying it? That means you need to place your product or affiliate link in front of most people seven times before you even come close to making a sale. Let me ask you this, how many people are promoting the same product or business as you? Chances are, a whole lot.
You should also know that people hate to be sold, but they do love to buy. The only catch is, people usually buy from people they like and trust. People are emotional buyers. So we now have two hurdles to overcome; positioning our product in front of them numerous times and gaining their trust. How is that even possible? Short answer, a lead list and an autoresponder.
Let me be clear here, though. I’m not talking about buying leads. You see, when you buy leads you are buying emails that, number one, may not be active and number two have been sold to hundreds if not thousands of other people. This is not going to create any amount of trust and if you are lucky enough to have the person even open one of your emails it does nothing for constant exposure.
Now think about people opting in to YOUR list. These are people that say to you personally, yes I want more information. Yes, I want to receive your newsletter. They are saying yes to you. Point one in the trust category.
OK, so you have an idea about why leads are important. Now on to the bigger question, how do you generate leads or even better, free leads? It’s actually a bit easier than you might think.
Every autoresponder comes with a form generator. Yes, you are going to need an autoresponder. But don’t worry, they are inexpensive and they will let you automate your business. It works even when you don’t. Now, this form is magical. It is! Because you can place that form in so many different places. And you want to do that, you want that form everywhere.
Where are some places you can put a form? Facebook? You bet! Search for “HTML profile box” on Facebook. Stick your form right in there! Not many people are doing this and it will put you 10 steps ahead of the crowd. Your blog? Oh yes! Even free blogs allow you to edit the HTML. Put your form at the top of your blog, perhaps under your about me section, and then place one under each post. Articles? Most certainly! When you put your article on your web page, put an opt in box right at the bottom. If you are providing good content, and get people curious, they will opt right in.
Get creative, and give people every chance possible to learn about you by opting into your list. But I have to warn you, generating leads, even free leads, is only a part of the battle. You see, now that they are on your list you want them to stay on your list. The only way you will be able to monetize that list is if they keep reading your emails. There are two ways of doing this.
First, invest in some copywriting training. You want those subject lines to capture their attention. And you want to keep their attention throughout the message. These emails are going out to hundreds and even thousands of people, but you want them to sound very personal. Like you are chatting with them one on one. Second, you want to provide them with useful, valuable content. You don’t have to try and sell to them every single email. Give them tips, facts, useful information and even free products. When you do ask them to buy something make sure that it is useful and solves their problems. Then, you are not selling, you are helping. And that makes a world of difference.

We briefly mentioned this in the first part of the series. But first, let's take a moment to review what we have learned. We learned why training is so important. Would you let a doctor work on your brain with no previous training? Of course not, and network marketing is no different. We discussed how to avoid burnout. The importance of focusing your energies on just a few marketing strategies before moving on. We talked about how everything you do is a conversation with the search engines and why keywords are important. Finally, we talked about branding yourself as a person with solutions and not just a sales person.
That brings us to the final piece of your network marketing puzzle. Once again, this is a very simple concept. The more you learn about me the more you will see how much I like simple things. You've heard me say this before, but I'll say it again. It's the simple things in life that are often the most profound. It's usually the little things that can make or break you. You will find in my training that I like to keep things step by step. I try to make sure you don't suffer burnout. My grandmother always says that you have to learn to walk before you can run. Have you ever seen a toddler try to run before they can walk? The results are usually pretty fun to watch, if not altogether disastrous.
Being consistent in your actions. That's the final piece of this network marketing puzzle. You've learned how to market effectively and you've made a marketing plan. You picked a few areas to focus on and you focus on them like a laser beam. Now you must stay consistent. And there will be days when you don't feel like doing anything at all. It's cold outside this morning. But it's warm under the covers. That alarm went off and there was only one thing I wanted to do. Roll over and go back to sleep.
But there is one thing your successful network marketing business cannot do without and that is you. You are the only one that can hold it all together. Nothing will happen if you don't take action every single day. Anthony Robbins said that in order to get massive results you need massive action. That is too true.
Now, you might have only a few hours of laser focused action that you take every day. That's fine. We need time to relax and enjoy ourselves. What good is a successful network marketing business if you don't have time to relax? But you can only build that business if you take the necessary action every day.
Get the marketing training that you need. Make your marketing plan. Decide on how you are going to grow your business. And then take those steps every single day. Being your own boss involves just that, being your own boss. Making your schedule and then sticking to it. Finding the motivation to do the things you need to do even when you don't feel like doing them. Only by staying consistent will you build a successful network marketing business. But more importantly, by staying consistent will you have more time to do the things you love and lead the kind of life you want.

Most of the ads on television are all about branding. Nike's quote, "Just do it." Allstate asks, "Are you in good hands?" Recognize either of these? Probably both.
And that's the whole idea. It's what branding is all about. Being quickly recognized. Having an idea, image or phrase attached to our name. You don't even have to come up with a catchy name or phrase. Quite a few people just use their own name. You, inc. It works. But that's not all there is to branding.
You see, in both of those examples the idea is not just to brand a catchy phrase or question. They are attaching themselves to an idea of value. What does the phrase "Just do it" really mean? It may mean something different for you than it does for me. But here's the catch. It has some meaning. A meaning that for many people is fairly profound. Sure, it's a simple statement. But it's a powerful message. Forget your fear and "just do it". Go out and "just do it". Take control of your life and "just do it". Be who you want to be. We will help.
When you brand yourself as someone who provides value things take on a whole new meaning. Instead of trying to track clients they will track you down. People will seek you out for what they need. People will see you as an expert and somebody with solutions.
Successful network marketing is really just a frame of mind. Think about this for a moment. A business that doesn't provide value doesn't do business. It only makes sense and yet too many people do the opposite. Place yourself in your prospect's shoes. Instead of trying to simply sell them some product or service, try to provide solutions to their problems. Focus on enriching the lives of those around you. Give without want. This is what attraction marketing is about. You become attractive because you are a solution or someone of value.
So, what's the message for today? Is it that we need to concentrate on branding ourselves? Or is it that we need to provide value? It's both of these. You brand yourself by providing value.
